About Sooke Community Jazz

In 2024, a small group of like-minded jazz musicians banded together and, meeting weekly in a classroom at EMCS, just played for fun. Since then, the Sooke Community Jazz Band has grown to 16 musicians, still practicing every week and now performing for the community. Last year included a Christmas concert that fundraised almost $3000 for the Sooke Food Bank.
This season sees the Sooke Community Jazz Band playing the Swing into Summer Jazz Concert fundraiser supporting the Sooke Food Bank on Friday, May 29 at Sooke Baptist Church, plus as part of established community events:
Ultimately, the Sooke Community Jazz Band would like to continue to practice and perform for the community. “We would love our community to come out and support our performances. Relax and enjoy great music. We do not accept donations at our events from the public other than when we have our fundraisers, where all funds collected go directly to the Sooke Food Bank,” says member Michael Wilson.
Sooke Community Jazz Band would like to acknowledge the support of both the District of Sooke Community Grant Program and the Sooke Arts Council’s grant, which covers operational costs, allowing members to be unrestricted by membership fees or music costs.
