Volunteer with the Sooke Food Bank
The heart and soul of the Sooke Food Bank is a core team of 40 volunteers and we always welcome more. We invite individuals as well as groups of volunteers from clubs, schools, churches and businesses to join us in meaningful community service.

Sooke Food Bank is more than just help with food. It’s a feeling of family; it puts you in a good mood. All the staff are kind, loving and, of course, giving. I’m so happy to now be in this family too. I feel like I’m living a dream, where helping people “fills our cup.” People come to us and we fill them up — not just their bellies, but also their hearts. I love to be able to help, often just by starting with “How are you?”

I feel privileged to be part of a committed and caring group of volunteers who go above and beyond to increase the quality of life for those less fortunate in our community. Each week, I look forward to joining this diverse group of people to share in the warm camaraderie and laughter that they have enjoyed together over the years. This has made a positive difference in my life.

Group Volunteers
Currently, five community groups regularly volunteer with the Sooke Food Bank: Sooke Lions Club, Harbourside Lions Club, Sooke Lioness Lions Club, Rotary Club, and the EMCL Leadership Program. Groups are commonly put to use with large grocery and goods pickups, where many hands working together as a team are needed.
Please contact us if your community group, club or organization is interested in helping in any capacity.
I can hardly find the right words to say how grateful I am to be able to volunteer for the Sooke Food Bank. I am 87 years old, so my volunteering doesn’t involve heavy lifting. Much more happily, it involves meeting the people who, of necessity, come needing help. I meet such very fine men and women in whom I find that great human dignity that exists even in our deepest need. Working with the other volunteers is, as well, a great joy. I feel very, very fortunate to be able to do this and I am constantly enriched in my being.
